Tajikistan acceded to the Convention on 12 October 1999, and the Convention entered into force for Tajikistan on 1 April 2000. Stockpile Destruction (Article 4)In its initial transparency report submitted on 3 February 2003, Tajikistan reported stockpiled anti-personnel mines under its ownership or possession or under its jurisdiction or control. Tajikistan reported that it had completed the destruction of all stockpiled anti-personnel mines in 2004. In total, Tajikistan reported having destroyed 3,029 mines. Victim AssistanceTajikistan is one of 30 States Parties that have indicated having significant numbers – hundreds or thousands – of landmine survivors. Tajikistan is also a signatory to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Mine Clearance (Article 5)In its initial transparency report, Tajikistan reported areas under its jurisdiction or control in which anti-personnel mines are known or suspected to be emplaced. In accordance with Article 5 of the Convention, Tajikistan undertakes to destroy or ensure the destruction of all anti-personnel mines in these areas as soon as possible but not later than 1 April 2010. On 31 March 2009, Tajikistan submitted a request to extend its mine clearance deadline. The request was granted at the Cartagena Summit and a new deadline set for 1 April 2020. On 31 March 2019, Tajikistan submitted a second request to extend its mine clearance deadline. The request was granted at the Fourth Review Conference of the States Parties, Oslo, Norway, and a new deadline set for 31 December 2025.
