The Contact Group will take stock of universalization actions taken since the 12MSP and coordinate ongoing efforts. In addition, the Contact Group Coordinator wishes to seek the views of universalization partners on the state of universalization in the context of the upcoming Third Review Conference.

TUESDAY 28 MAY

13:00     Victim Assistance - Where is the money really coming from?  Considering the range of ways and means resources may be provided

Since the early days of the Convention, great strides have been made in defining victim assistance and understanding the needs. What remains less clear is how assistance is actually paid for. Speakers will discuss funding sources and mechanisms which may improve the lives of survivors, some through dedicated assistance and others through broader health, rehabilitation or economic development infrastructures.

13:00     Angola’s resource mobilisation strategy

At the 12MSP, Angola was granted an extension on its mine clearance deadline with the meeting noting “the importance of external support to ensure timely implementation.” In follow-up to this, Angola will present its resource mobilisation strategy.

13:00     Data collection and analysis for measuring impact in South Sudan

Since the 12MSP, MAG has gathered impact assessment data in South Sudan. This case study will demonstrate how comparative analysis of baseline and recently gathered follow-up data is facilitating MAG’s efforts to measure and report on the impact of clearance activities.

The United Kingdom's Department for International Development (DFID) invites national directors of mine-affected countries to discuss the UK's new Mine Action Programme.

The objective of the TIRAMISU project is to provide the mine action community with a toolbox to assist in addressing the many issues related to humanitarian demining and thus promoting peace, national and regional security, conflict prevention, social and economic rehabilitation and post-conflict reconstruction.
