Tajikistan acceded to the Convention on 12 October 1999, and the Convention entered into force for Tajikistan on 1 April 2000.
Stockpile Destruction (Article 4)
In its initial transparency report submitted on 3 February 2003, Tajikistan reported stockpiled anti-personnel mines under its ownership or possession or under its jurisdiction or control.
Tajikistan reported that it had completed the destruction of all stockpiled anti-personnel mines in 2004. In total, Tajikistan reported having destroyed 3,029 mines.
Tajikistan is one of 30 States Parties that have indicated having significant numbers – hundreds or thousands – of landmine survivors. Tajikistan is also a signatory to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
Mine Clearance (Article 5)
In its initial transparency report, Tajikistan reported areas under its jurisdiction or control in which anti-personnel mines are known or suspected to be emplaced.
In accordance with Article 5 of the Convention, Tajikistan undertakes to destroy or ensure the destruction of all anti-personnel mines in these areas as soon as possible but not later than 1 April 2010.
On 31 March 2009, Tajikistan submitted a request to extend its mine clearance deadline. The request was granted at the Cartagena Summit and a new deadline set for 1 April 2020.
On 31 March 2019, Tajikistan submitted a second request to extend its mine clearance deadline. The request was granted at the Fourth Review Conference of the States Parties, Oslo, Norway, and a new deadline set for 31 December 2025.
