Transparency and the Exchange of Information

Transparency and the open exchange of information have been essential pillars on which the Convention’s practices, procedures and tradition of partnership have been built, through both formal means and informal means.

In terms of formal means of information exchange, in accordance with Article 7 of the Convention, each State Party is obliged to report to the Secretary-General of the United Nations as soon as practicable, and in any event not later than 180 days after the entry into force of this Convention for that State Party on various aspects of implementation.

In addition, the information provided in accordance with Article 7 must be updated by the States Parties annually, covering the last calendar year, and reported to the Secretary-General of the United Nations not later than 30 April of each year in care of the following address:

Victim Assistance Checklist

It is a Checklist for the victim assistance aspects of the Oslo Action Plan. In accordance with its mandate to “provide advice and support in a cooperative manner to States Parties in the fulfilment of their commitments under the Oslo Action Plan, draw observations in consultation with the States Parties concerned and assist these States Parties in making their needs known” the Committee on Victim Assistance with the support of the Implementation Support Unit prepared this Checklist to assist the work of the national victim assistance and disability authorities in reporting and measuring progress on the victim assistance and other relevant actions of the Oslo Action Plan.

The Implementation Support Unit
can provide assistance to States
Parties – as it did with the Republic
of Guinea – in enabling them to
fulfill their transparency reporting
obligations.
