The Sultanate of Oman acceded to the Convention on 20 August 2014. The Convention entered into force for Oman on 1 February 2015.

Stockpile Destruction (Article 4)

In its initial transparency report submitted in 2015, Oman reported 15,260 stockpiled anti-personnel mines under its ownership or possession.

In information provided in 2017 in accordance with its Article 7 transparency obligations, Oman reported that 4,578 anti-personnel mines were destroyed in 2015-2016, leaving 10,682 stockpiled anti-personnel mines to destroy.

At the Seventeenth Meeting of the States Parties (17MSP) in 2018, Oman announced that the destruction of all stockpiled anti-personnel mines had been completed.

Retained Mines (Article 3)

Notwithstanding the obligation to destroy all stockpiled anti-personnel mines, the Convention permits the retention of the minimum number of anti-personnel mines absolutely necessary for the development of and training in mine detection, mine clearance, or mine destruction techniques.

As of 2017, Oman has reported having retained 2,000 anti-personnel mines for these permitted purposes.

Mine Clearance (Article 5)

In its initial transparency report, Oman reported areas under its jurisdiction or control in which anti-personnel mines were known or suspected to be emplaced.

In accordance with Article 5 of the Convention, Oman undertook to destroy or ensure the destruction of all anti-personnel mines in these areas as soon as possible but not later than 1 February 2025.
