Denmark ratified the Convention on 8 June 1998, and the Convention entered into force for Denmark on 1 March 1999.

Stockpile Destruction (Article 4)

In its initial transparency report submitted on 27 August 1999, Denmark reported stockpiled anti-personnel mines under its ownership or possession.

In 2001, Denmark reported that it had completed the destruction of all stockpiled anti-personnel mines.

In total, Denmark reported having destroyed 269,351 mines.

Retained Mines (Article 3)

Notwithstanding the obligation to destroy all stockpiled anti-personnel mines, the Convention permits the retention of the minimum number of anti-personnel mines absolutely necessary for the development of and training in mine detection, mine clearance, or mine destruction techniques.

As of 2020, Denmark has reported having retained 1,736 anti-personnel mines for these permitted purposes. These mines are retained for research and development by the Danish Defence Research Establishment and to be used for training in mine detection.

Mine Clearance (Article 5)

In its initial transparency report, Denmark reported areas under its jurisdiction or control in which anti-personnel mines were known or suspected to be emplaced.

In accordance with Article 5 of the Convention, Denmark undertook to destroy or ensure the destruction of all anti-personnel mines in these areas as soon as possible but not later than 1 March 2009.

In 2008 and 2010, Denmark submitted requests to extend its deadline. The requests were granted and a new deadline set for 1 July 2012.

On 5 July 2012, at a ceremony at the Skallingen Peninsula, Denmark announced it had fulfilled its obligation under Article 5 of the Convention.

A formal declaration of completion was presented at the Twelfth Meeting of the States Parties (12MSP)
