Room: B | Host: Government of Sri Lanka and the Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka to the UN in Geneva As one of the newest States Parties to the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention, Sri Lanka is committed to the effective and efficient implementation of the objectives of the Convention. The Brown Bag Session will look at Sri Lanka’s progress and its remaining challenges in achieving its ambitious goal of a mine-free Sri Lanka by 2020, as well as Sri Lanka’s commitment to supporting mine victims and survivors. The session will also provide an opportunity to discuss challenges and prospects for partnership.

This event presents a historical overview of the problem and introduces the progress of the mine action and the situation so far, and discusses future challenges of clearing landmines from the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). --------------------------
Room: C2 | Host: Asociación de Amistad con el Pueblo Saharaaui de SevillaThis event will provide an update on the situation of victims in Western Sahara. Cultural and environmental characteristics will be discussed. Cases of victims and their treatment in a refuge situation will be shared. Focus will also be given to advances in demining and the role of women. The campaign and work of the citizen platform for the eradication of mines created in Andalusia will also be screened. |
