Geneva — The States Parties have long understood that Victim Assistance obligations under the Convention, “should be integrated into broader national policies, plans and legal frameworks related to the rights of persons with disabilities.” To further this mandate, and in her role as Chair of the Committee on Victim Assistance, H.E. Beatriz Londoño Soto, Ambassador of Colombia to the UN in Geneva, met with representatives of the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The meeting with the body of independent experts led by Dr. Theresia Degener, that monitors the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, is part of the Victim Assistance Committee's mandate to “seek areas guaranteeing the rights of landmine victims in broader domains such as disability rights”.

The Committee on Victim Assistance which includes representatives of Belgium, Croatia and Ecuador, has been working to ensure the implementation of the relevant Maputo Action Plan actions including by disseminating the Guidance on Victim Assistance Reporting. The guide seeks to “support reporting by States Parties and alleviate the burden for States with limited capacities to gather information”, by providing a set of guiding questions relevant to the collection of information on the ground.
