2.c Conclusions and recommendations related to the mandate of the Committee on Article 5 Implementation (continued)

The 14MSP took decisions on the requests for extended mine clearance deadlines which had been submitted by Cyprus, Ethiopia, Mauritania, Niger and Senegal.

In addition, Ukraine took the floor to express its intention to submit a request for an extended mine clearance deadline in 2016.

5. Preparation of the Fifteenth Meeting of the States Parties

5.b Designation of new Committee members

The 14MSP agreed that the following eight States Parties serve a two-year term as new Committee members, starting at the end of the 14MSP:

•Committee on Article 5 Implementation: Costa Rica and Zambia;

•Committee on Cooperative Compliance: Sweden and Peru;

•Committee on Victim Assistance: Colombia and Belgium;

•Committee on the Enhancement of Cooperation and Assistance: Uganda and the Netherlands. 


These new Committee members will join the following States Parties which will complete the second year of their two-year term between the end of the 14MSP and the end of the 15MSP:

•Committee on Article 5 Implementation: Ecuador and Ireland;

•Committee on Cooperative Compliance: Algeria and Canada;

•Committee on Victim Assistance: Senegal and Thailand;

•Committee on the Enhancement of Cooperation and Assistance: Mexico and Switzerland.

5.a Designation of the President of the Fifteenth Meeting of the States Parties

It was recalled that the Third Review Conference warmly welcomed the offer made by Chile to host and preside over the Fifteenth Meeting of the States Parties (15MSP).

The meeting agreed with the proposal that the 15MSP take place from 28 November to 2 December 2016 in Santiago, Chile and that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Chile be designated to preside over the 15MSP.

In addition, the meeting also noted with appreciation the offer by Austria to preside over the Sixteenth Meeting of the States Parties in 2017.

5.c Preparation for the 2016 intersessional meetings and the 15MSP

The 14MSP agreed to hold intersessional meetings from 19 to 20 May 2016 in Geneva.

The Presidency of the 15MSP, Chile, presented its initial ideas and concept for the 15MSP.

5.d Decision on estimated costs and budget for the 15MSP

The 14MSP adopted cost estimates for the 15MSP.

7. Consideration and adoption of the final report of the 14MSP

The 14MSP adopted its final report and the President of the 14MSP delivered his closing remarks.
