Reducing Loss of Lives and Limbs; Improving Emergency Response and Protection

Casualties caused by mines and other explosive remnants of war have been increasing in recent years. Persons with disabilities including mine and other ERW survivors are among the most vulnerable during natural and man-made disasters.

What can be done to reduce deaths caused by mines and ERW? How to apply Article 11 of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in mine-affected countries and good practices to ensure the safety of persons with disabilities including mine survivors before, during and after disasters? This session will seek to address these and other questions including both the emergency response and long-term protection.
