The Republic of North Macedonia (former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia) acceded to the Convention on 9 September 1998, and the Convention entered into force for the Republic of North Macedonia (former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia) on 1 March 1999.

Stockpile Destruction (Article 4)

In its initial transparency report submitted on 25 May 1999, North Macedonia reported stockpiled anti-personnel mines under its ownership or possession or under its jurisdiction or control.

In its transparency report submitted on 15 April 2003, North Macedonia reported that it had completed the destruction of all stockpiled anti-personnel mines.

In total, North Macedonia reported having destroyed 38,921 mines.

On 10 July 2006, North Macedonia destroyed an additional 4,000 anti-personnel mines which had been kept for training purposes.

On 10 May 2012, the Armed Forces of North Macedonia destroyed a previously unknown stockpile of anti-personnel mines.

Mine Clearance (Article 5)

In its initial transparency report, North Macedonia reported areas under its jurisdiction or control in which anti-personnel mines were known or suspected to be emplaced.

In accordance with Article 5 of the Convention, North Macedonia undertook to destroy or ensure the destruction of all anti-personnel mines in these areas as soon as possible but not later than 1 March 2009.

On 15 September 2006, the Foreign Minister of North Macedonia announced that mine clearance operations had been completed.

On 19 September 2006, at the Seventh Meeting of the States Parties in Geneva, North Macedonia declared that it had fulfilled its obligation under Article 5 of the Convention becoming the first State Party in Southeast Europe to do so.
