Niger ratified the Convention on 23 March 1999, and the Convention entered into force for Niger on 1 September 1999.

Stockpile Destruction (Article 4)

In its transparency report submitted on 31 March 2003, Niger reported stockpiled anti-personnel mines under its ownership or possession or under its jurisdiction or control.

In its transparency report submitted on 26 May 2009, Niger reported that it had completed the destruction of all stockpiled anti-personnel mines. In total, Niger reported having destroyed 1,885 mines.

Mine Clearance (Article 5)

In its initial transparency report submitted on 12 September 2002, Niger indicated that there were areas under its jurisdiction or control in which anti-personnel mines were known or suspected to be emplaced.

In accordance with Article 5 of the Convention, Niger undertook to destroy or ensure the destruction of all anti-personnel mines in these areas as soon as possible but not later than 1 September 2009.

On 5 June 2008, Niger informed the Standing Committee on Mine Clearance, that there were no areas suspected to have anti-personnel mines. 

On 23 May 2012, Niger informed the Standing Committee on Mine Clearance of one area totaling 2,400 square metres known to contain anti-personnel mines. 

On 1 July 2013, Niger submitted a request to extend its mine clearance deadline. The request was granted at the Thirteenth Meeting of the States Parties and a new deadline was set for 31 December 2015.

On 12 November 2015, Niger submitted a second request for an extended deadline. This request was granted at the Fourteenth Meeting of the States Parties and a new deadline set for 31 December 2016.

On 15 April 2016, Niger submitted a third request to extend its mine clearance deadline. The request was granted at the Fifteenth Meeting of the States Parties and a new deadline set for 31 December 2020.

On 28 May 2020, Niger submitted a fourth request to extend its mine clearance deadline. The decision was granted at the Eighteenth Meeting of the States Parties and a new deadline set for 31 December 2024.
