Finland acceded to the Convention on 9 January 2012, and the Convention entered into force for Finland on 1 July 2012. Stockpile Destruction (Article 4) In its transparency report submitted in 2012, Finland reported stockpiled anti-personnel mines under its ownership or possession. In accordance with Article 4 of the Convention, Finland undertook to destroy or ensure the destruction of all stockpiled anti-personnel mines it owns or possesses, or that are under its jurisdiction or control by 1 July 2016. On 18 August 2015, Finland announced that it had completed the destruction of all stockpiled anti-personnel mines. Retained Mines (Article 3) Notwithstanding the obligation to destroy all stockpiled anti-personnel mines, the Convention permits the retention of the minimum number of anti-personnel mines absolutely necessary for the development of and training in mine detection, mine clearance, or mine destruction techniques. As of 2020, Finland reported having retained 15,982 anti-personnel mines for these permitted purposes. Mine Clearance (Article 5) In its initial transparency report Finland reported that there were no mined areas under its jurisdiction or control. |
